SUMMARY:20th FGB Knowledge Apero: "One number\, many stories: What do composite indicators reveal and conceal?"
DESCRIPTION:FGB Brussels Office. 13 October\, 18:00-20:00 CET \nComposite indicators help simplify complex issues into a single score or ranking. But in doing so\, they can also hide important differences\, assumptions and uncertainties. \nThis Knowledge Apero will bring together three perspectives: the European Skills Deficiencies Index\, developed under SkillsPULSE project\, the methodological expertise of the JRC Competence Centre on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards\, and the policy perspective of DG RTD. \nThe discussion will focus on how composite indicators are built\, interpreted and used in policy. What do we gain from summarising complex information in one number? What might we lose? And how can we make sure these indicators remain useful without oversimplifying the reality behind them? \nPROGRAMME \nModerator: \n\nLiga Baltina\, Head of Labour Market and Skills Research Unit\, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini\n\nKey Interventions: \n\n\n\nMarina Ferent-Pipas\, Researcher\, Labour Market and Skills Research Unit\, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini\nPanagiotis Ravanos\, Quantitative Policy Analyst\, Joint Research Centre\, European Commission\nAthina Karvounaraki\, Senior Expert-Statistics and Indicators-Team Leader\, European Commission\, DG RTD\n\n\n\n  \nREGISTER HERE \nKnowledge Apéro is an after work informal gathering with invited guests for sharing discussion and wine. Networks bring inspiration\, multiplying the dimensions of value generated by individuals\, institutions and companies.
